Talk to people the way you would standing next to their boat. Disagree, argue about anchoring, take the mickey out of each other’s fenders. That’s all fine.

• Harassment, bullying, or following someone around the app to have a go at them.
• Hate directed at anyone for who they are.
• Nudity or sexual content.
• Threats or violence, and anything encouraging someone to hurt themselves.
• Spam, scams, and posting the same advertisement everywhere.
• Pretending to be someone else, or representing a club, marina or school you have nothing to do with.
• Posting someone else’s private details, including where they live or where their boat is kept.
• Anything illegal.

Your logbook is your own account of your own sailing, and it’s worth something precisely because it’s true. Don’t invent trips, don’t log yourself as skipper when you weren’t, and don’t tag someone as crew on a trip they weren’t on — it appears in their logbook too.

Every trip, comment, message, Group post and profile has a report option behind the ⋯ button. Tell us what’s wrong and we’ll look. Reports are read by a person, usually within a day, and we don’t tell anyone who reported them.

You can also blockanyone. Blocking stops them messaging you, undoes any follow between you both ways, and hides each of you from the other. It’s undone in Settings whenever you like.

If someone is in immediate danger at sea, call the Coastguard, not us. Saltlog is a logbook, not a safety service, and nobody here is watching a screen waiting for a Mayday.

Depending on what’s happened, we’ll remove the content, ask someone to stop, suspend an account, or remove it entirely. Serious things — threats, anything involving a child, anything illegal — mean the account goes straight away, and we’ll involve the police where we should.

We’ll act on what we find, not on how many people reported it.
