Saltlog is a personal logbook: a tool for recording your own boating trips — dates, hours, distance, vessel, crew, and conditions — and for tracking your own progress toward a boating qualification you are working on. It also lets you connect with other boaters — following people, tagging real Crew, and joining or running Groups for marinas, clubs, and training schools.

Saltlog is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated on behalf of any qualification awarding body. It is an independent record-keeping tool. Whether your logged hours or trips are accepted toward any qualification is entirely a matter for the awarding body and your instructor or examiner — Saltlog makes no representation that logging a trip here satisfies any requirement.

Saltlog is a record-keeping app. It is not a navigation aid, a safety device, or a source of reliable real-time weather, tidal, or charting information, and must never be relied upon as one.

• Weather shown in the app is pulled automatically from a third-party forecasting service at the time you start logging a trip. It reflects a general forecast for a location, not verified real-time conditions, and may be wrong, delayed, or unavailable.
• GPS tracking (in Quick Log) is provided for building your own trip record, whether from your phone’s own GPS or, if connected, a boat’s SignalK navigation system. Device and equipment GPS accuracy varies and can be lost entirely, especially with a weak signal, low battery, or the app backgrounded. It is not a substitute for a proper chartplotter, compass, or paper chart.
• We do not provide tidal data, navigational warnings, collision avoidance, or any output that should inform a real-time decision made while underway.

You are solely responsible for your own passage planning, safety equipment, and decisions at sea. Never use Saltlog, or any data it displays, as a basis for a safety-critical decision on the water.

Everything in your logbook is what you entered. Saltlog records it, adds it up and presents it back to you — it does not check that a trip happened, that a distance is right, or that a qualification was awarded. The same goes for anything built from it: your Résumé, your reports, your achievements and the totals on your profile are your own statement of your experience, not a certificate from us and not evidence that anyone has verified it.

Where Saltlog shows how a trip was logged — tracked live, typed in, or imported — that describes how the record was made, nothing more. If Saltlog reviews a certificate you upload, that is a light check that a document exists and matches what you entered; it is not accreditation, and it does not make us a training body or an examiner.

If you send a Résumé or a report to a school, a skipper, an employer or an insurer, you are making that statement yourself, and you are responsible for it being true.

When Deckhand reads something for you — an invoice, a receipt, a spreadsheet, a logbook page or a website — it is an AI making its best reading, and it can get things wrong. Nothing it reads is saved until you have checked it, and what you accept becomes your own record, the same as anything you type in. The costs and totals Saltlog works out for a boat are for your own information, not accounting or tax advice.

Mile Building is an introduction feature. Saltlog does not vet, verify, or endorse anyone’s experience, competence, qualifications, or suitability, and never checks references, insurance, or safety equipment on your behalf.

• A Group’s Mile Building post (from a training school, charter, marina, or other organisation) reflects what that Group’s admin has chosen to publish. Saltlog does not verify a Group’s insurance, safety standards, instructor qualifications, or vessel condition.
• Saltlog never facilitates payment, contracts, or bookings for a Mile Building opportunity. Any arrangement you make — including any exchange of money — is directly between you and the other party, entirely outside the Service.
• Expressing interest in, or responding to, a Mile Building opportunity does not create any obligation on Saltlog’s part, and Saltlog is not a party to whatever you subsequently agree with the other person.

Before agreeing to crew for someone, or taking crew aboard your own vessel, carry out your own due diligence — check qualifications, insurance, safety equipment, and suitability directly with the other person. Saltlog is a way to find and introduce people; it is never a substitute for your own judgement.

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 16, you need your parent or guardian’s permission to use Saltlog, and they should read these terms with you.
• Taking out a subscription is a contract, and you must be legally able to enter into one (in England, generally 18 or over) to purchase.
• You are responsible for keeping your login details (or passkey) secure, and for all activity under your account.
• The information you enter — trips, hours, crew, vessel details, and any Group profile you create or manage — is self-reported by you or other users. We do not verify its accuracy.
• We take a daily backup of the database behind the Service. This reduces the risk of data loss but is not a guarantee — if you’re relying on your Saltlog record as evidence toward a qualification, it’s sensible to also keep your own copy of anything you can’t afford to lose.

Logging and keeping your record are free: Quick Log live tracking, Manual Log, GPX upload and Bulk Import, unlimited trips, vessels and crew, Groups, your Feed and messages, Training and achievements, Explore, and your Logbook, Résumé and reports. Current prices and exactly what each plan includes are always shown on our Pricing page, which takes precedence over any older figure quoted elsewhere.

Saltlog Plus and Founding membership are auto-renewing subscriptions, monthly or yearly, bought inside the Saltlog app through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Payment is taken by your Apple or Google account when you confirm the purchase, and the subscription then renews automatically at the end of each period, at the price then in force, until you cancel.

You can cancel at any time in your Apple or Google account’s subscription settings. Cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period to avoid being charged for the next one; your subscription then runs to the end of the period you have already paid for. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies. None of this affects your statutory rights. If a subscription price changes, Apple or Google will tell you before it applies, and you can cancel before it does.

Founding membershipis limited to the first 200 members. The founding mark on your profile stays with you after the membership ends; the extras that come with it — early access, the private channel, calls with the founder and a vote on what gets built — are provided while your Founding membership is active.

If a subscription ends, nothing you have already logged or uploaded is deleted.

You agree not to:

• use the Service for any unlawful purpose;
• attempt to access another user’s account or data without authorisation;
• use the crew-logging or invitation features to contact people without a legitimate reason to do so;
• tag someone as Crew on a trip they weren’t genuinely part of — for a real, signed-in Saltlog account, doing so can trigger a notification and a copy of the trip appearing in their own logbook, so use it accurately;
• create or represent a Group (a marina, club, school, or other organisation) you’re not authorised to speak for, or use a Group’s broadcast or enquiry features to send unsolicited or misleading messages;
• use direct messages or a Group’s chat rooms to harass anyone, or to send unsolicited advertising;
• present your Saltlog logbook, Résumé or reports as verified or certified by us, or alter them to claim experience or qualifications you don’t have;
• post or send anything that breaks our community guidelines — harassment, hate, sexual content, threats, spam or impersonation. There is no tolerance for it: we remove the content and, depending on what it is, suspend or remove the account. Reports are read by a person, normally within a day;
• attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer, or interfere with the Service or its underlying infrastructure.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms. Separately, you can permanently delete your own account at any time, from Settings — see our Privacy Policy for what that deletes and what’s kept.

You retain ownership of the trip data, photos, Group listings, and other content you add to Saltlog. You grant us the licence needed to store, process, and display it back to you and to the other Saltloggers it reaches, in order to provide the Service. By default your profile and your trips are visible to other Saltloggers and to visitors who aren’t signed in — that openness is how the Service works. You can switch it off at any time with the “Private account” setting in Settings; see our Privacy Policy for exactly what Private does and does not hide.

The Service is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all warranties, and we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential loss, or for any loss or damage arising from your use of the Service at sea, including reliance on weather data, GPS tracking, or any other information the Service displays. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Our total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose.

There is always one current version of these terms, the one on this page, and the “last updated” date above tells you when it changed. Small changes — clearer wording, a new feature described — take effect when they are posted here, and continued use means you accept them.

A change that materially affects you, such as a real reduction in what you get, is different: we will tell you in Saltlog itself, the next time you open it, at least 14 days before it takes effect. If the change affects what you pay, we will email you as well. If you carry on using Saltlog after that date you accept the change; if you would rather not, you can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may also add, change, or discontinue features of the Service at our discretion.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
